Path to Diagnosis

Grace McGrath

My path to diagnosis was fast yet seemed slow.  A family friend brought up that I may have autism, and I didn’t believe them.  There is a particular way society views autism, and I didn’t feel I fit that.  Nonetheless, I started doing my research and found that I was matching with many of the traits I found.  It was eye-opening.  I then reached out to a doctor who made a referral to the doctor in Bozeman for testing done in December 2020.  The testing day was a lot of different tests and interviews.  I was so nervous doing it because I thought it would come back I didn’t have it.  I then found out in early 2021 that I did indeed have autism.  I wouldn’t believe it till I got the actual report, just in case the doctor may have been wrong.  This created a mindset shift for me and how I viewed myself.
